Henry Swanson, author of “The Unknown Islands,” was born in Unalaska in 1895. Over his lifetime living in the Aleutian Islands of Alaska, he was a fox trapper in the Aleutians, a fisherman, served in the Navy during World War I, and in his later years became a storyteller. This interview, filmed on June 6, 1990, by Kurt Schmidt records Henry Swanson at his house as he was interviewed by Edgar P. Bailey, U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service Alaska Maritime National Wildlife Service seabird biologist Jeff Wraley, USFWS Field Assistant. Mr. Swanson passed away at age 95 on December 21, 1990.
